THE DATING SIM MEME

Congratulations, you're stuck in a dating sim. Hilarious text options pop up out of thin air after every question
and trigger phrase, and you can't feel creeped out by it. You better choose the right answers or...well you know what will happen.

Shindou ends up picking a row in the middle for a good view. It seems like she really has no problem with horror films after all, if she's choosing a place like this.

The trailers are over fairly quickly, thankfully, and it isn't long before the movie starts. It looks pretty good, too!

She's engrossed in the movie herself. No problems here.

Except when you look over later, she seems to have fallen asleep. She must have been pretty tried.

She seemed really tired back in the music room anyway; you'll just wake her when the movie's done if she doesn't wake up on her own before then.]

She's awake by the end of the movie, but looking a little disappointed that she missed the middle.

"Ah, I didn't get the ending at all..."

> "Well what happened was..."
> "Tough cookies. It was really good!"

She nervously scratches the back of her neck and laughs nervously. It's kind of cute, actually.

Shindou nods and... is that a blush?

[You catch the blush and... well, you can feel your face heating up a little as well.] Of course.

You can't afford anything too fancy, but it's the thought that counts, right?]

You step out of the cinema but it seems to have started raining since you went in! Shindou shuffles back under the shelter of the building and clutches at her bag.

"Oh... just our luck."

> "Well, I guess this is bye then!"
> "Come on, we can take a taxi"
> "We can walk! It'll be fun!"

... Yeah, no kidding. [You think for a moment. You remember that you put an umbrella in your bag this morning, and dig it out.

> "We can walk! It'll be fun."

You open up the umbrella and hold it above your head.]

Here, stand close, okay?

Shindou looks relieved that you have an umbrella and scurries right under it with a smile. Luckily, the restaurant you want to take her to is pretty close!

"I will! Thanks." She keeps in step with you all the way, never straying too far from the shade of the umbrella or stepping too hard to cause splashes. You guess it's some sort of lady-training or something to glide over the ground rather than getting their shoes wet.

"Ah, I've never eaten here before..."

The food here is actually pretty good, but maybe it would be fun to play around a bit...?

> "Well, you're in for a treat!"
> "Don't get your hopes up~"
> "I wouldn't have thought so, Miss-Far-Too-Rich."

The dishes are rather simple, but the presentation certainly doesn't make it seem like it.]

Here, I know a good place for us to sit.

Shindou merely nods and lets you lead the way to a table in a secluded part of the restaurant with a rather nice view of the greenery.

"This place is quite nice."

And she's not wrong. A waitress walks up to the table promptly, hands the two of you a menu and stands to one side while you decide what to get.

"Is there anything that you would recommend to me?"

> Suggest the special dish.
> Suggest your own favourite.
> Suggest something random.

But you make sure to add that everything they serve here is delicious and to choose something that seems good. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, after all.]

"Oh, I guess I'll take the special then. And water is fine for a drink..."

She seems pleased at the choice! The waitress stands up straight and takes down her order. And you, sir?

The waitress nods, takes your orders, and walks away.

Shindou, in the meantime, settles into her seat a little more and rests her hands on her lap.

"So, you come here often?"

Looks like she's trying to make conversation.

You talk a little about mundane things until there's a lull in the conversation when the waitress comes over to bring the drinks over.

When the waitress leaves again, Shindou is playing with her glass nervously and wearing a conflicted expression. You are about to ask what that face is for when she starts to speak.

"Kirino... can you just hear me out? You can do whatever you want afterwards, but I just... want you to listen for now. Is that okay?"

A weird request.

> "Sure, go on."
> "No."
> "..."

Yeah, like you're going to turn down anything she asks.]

She takes a deep breath before starting. Oh boy.

"I know that we've known each other for a long time-- oh gosh, that sounds so cheesy, I'm sorry, let me start again.

"I... Kirino, you've been my friend for so long I don't even know what it feels like not to have you there anymore; my parents even like you, and that's a pretty big feat." Shindou pauses to giggle lightly, although her expression sobers fast.

"But for a long time also I've... I've had this feeling, you know? I really wanted to spend more time with you but we've both been busy and-- I don't even know what it was like to be with you without this feeling and-- And even today, when you just turned up at the door--

"I guess what I want to say is that I really like you."

[You take a moment to let what she said sink in, heat rising to your cheeks. The two of you really have known each other for a long time.

You notice that one of her hands is placed on the table. You reach over and place one of yours on top of it.]

I really like you, too.

She looks relieved -- her eyes are watering again today, but for a completely different reason this time. Shindou smiles brightly and clutches at your hand as if it were a gift.

"Good. I'm glad." Her smile is warm and free. You think wouldn't have any trouble getting smiles like these every day.
