> Back off, but express your concern-- request that if Shura starts feeling unwell, he should let you know!

"Alright..." El Cid is no mother hen. He also has a certain amount of pride that he somehow projects on other people, that they too have some pride to preserve (it doesn't mean, however, that he's always right). At that moment, something has to give, and he has to consider the fact that they will be consuming alcohol which tends to warm the body. "Do tell me though if you're any way unwell. It's... getting kind of warm here though, excuse me--"

El Cid then takes a moment to still hail the waiter for some cool water, and to even adjust the air-conditioning a bit.

----------

Way to make a "first impression" on your first night off work, but El Cid showed some concern for you. How do you react?

> Tsun! Quietly! (ie. silent treatment time!)
> Dere! It feels nice to be looked after ( ///)a
> Tsun! And tell El Cid that was totally unnecessary
> Dere! Mildly! (ie. smile and give your polite reassurances)

> Tsun! And tell El Cid that was totally unnecessary

On one hand, Shura does appreciate the fact that El Cid backs off regarding the issue. On the other hand he ... does not the somewhat underhanded way he goes about doing the exact opposite. He sighs, but he can't feel angry about it. In a way? It's sweet. But at the same time rather frustrating.

"You didn't have to do that," his pout is mild, but it is there, at least for now he's in a bit more of a control over the colour of his face. And the chillier air from the air-conditioning unit does help to keep his flush at bay. So what El Cid did... does work. It was still unnecessary as far as Shura's concerned. "I feel fine."

----------

Now there is a bit of an awkward silence between you two. What do you do to salvage the situation?

> Pick up the conversation again as if nothing had happened! Answer the last question, ask your own!

El Cid wouldn't be in his current position if he did not possess a single strand of socialization skill. He preferred to be aloof, granted, and avoided interactions that would be mistaken as intimate (better to watch one's back in this line of work after all). It was also hard to fluster El Cid -- unless he was drunk or he was in the presence of someone he likes.

Besides, silence and being told straight away what was being bothersome are things he found necessary. No longer seeing the need to beat at the argument, El Cid nods his acknowledgment and, "I realize I haven't answered your question earlier -- yes, I go skiing and mountain biking during the holidays. I follow the tennis tourneys and more recently, pool tourneys. What about you?"

----------

Things look almost effortless, but El Cid did his best. But is his best enough?

> No! Things are awkward now, wtv, only silence can treat this!
> Yes! Let it go and ride along! Appreciate your new partner's effort.
> No! Tsun some more because damnit your pride was (slightly) wounded!

Taking too long to answer? Have a bonus choice!

> Yes! Go with the flow and take your turn in giving El Cid a disarming smile~

The smile that Shura gives in response to a change of the subject is grateful. Though he probably doesn't realize just how grateful, or that coupled with the flush that's still visible on his cheeks it makes him appear much... softer, so to speak, than he would normally like to.

"I used to practise fencing, I'm hoping to pick it up here again," though so far he had no luck finding anywhere where he could practise. "Skiing too, though I prefer snowboards, mountain biking not so much." This right there is a good distraction, it helps Shura relax again and be more at ease thankfully, "As far as watching goes, anything that's on. I only make effort to follow football and formula one."

----------

It appears that Shura's comfortable again-- and my, that smile right there. It doesn't help that it doesn't exactly subside entirely as he talks about sports. How do you react?

> Endearment: the smile is disarming and distracting. You actually miss everything Shura said.
> Endearment: the smile is disarming, but not distracting enough to make you miss what Shura's saying. Reply appropriately.
> Indifference: the smile does nothing to you, you simply reply to what Shura said.
> Disapproval: the smile is not exactly masculine, a sign of weakness perhaps. Comment on it.

> Endearment: the smile is disarming, but not distracting enough to make you miss what Shura's saying. Reply appropriately.

-- except that it has it's element of distraction, enough to draw a reaction from El Cid's otherwise placid expression. A slight raise of a brow and a blink, and a sound of acknowledgement, "Aa." as opposed to his usual, "Mm." or a more acceptable, "I see." was what El Cid managed.

It took a breath longer for El Cid to reply, thinking of how he could see more of that look and that smile -- a self-indulgence, certainly, but why not?

"For how long have you been fencing?"

----------

-- wait, what was that look?

> Okay, that was just surreal. Call Cid out on it!
> Call Cid out in a way that shows concern? He just spaced out, maybe something's bothering him.

> Just... carry on! It's just a conversation!

Shura has considered asking about that look, or about that pause, in general, about El Cid's reaction, but he has just started feeling comfortable again and he decides there's no point in spoiling that. Though a look of confusion does cross his features momentarily.

"Since first class in secondary school," he says, leaning on the table a bit. Safe subject, comfortable conversation, and while Shura is no longer smiling -- he's not the sort to smile for no reason, after all, probably much like El Cid himself -- his tone is fairly light, "Though I had a few years of a break now."

As they say, fleeting things are usually the most beautiful.

Wait. El Cid didn't just think that thought, right? No, he didn't.

Except that he totally did. But since nobody else knows, it's invalid, and thus it doesn't exist!

"There are athletic clubs around town you can take a look at. A few of them are within walking distance." As they speak, the waiter comes with the water and the entrées. "Do you also follow the Paris-Dakar rally?"
thefinestknight: (headpiece)

[personal profile] thefinestknight 2012-08-31 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I used to," Shura admits, remembering his colleagues from his previous assignment, "I had a deal with a friend, he'd follow formula one with me without complaining, and I'd do the same with Paris-Dakar for him."

The waiter comes and goes, and Shura makes sure to keep himself out of the way as is only polite. No reason to make anyone's job more difficult than it already is-- plus, he knows well enough to be polite to people who serve your food. He nods at the waiter in a thank you, but doesn't pause in the conversation. There is just something that needs to be said, or well, asked-- "I have a list of the clubs, I just need to find time to go." Shura pauses for a briefest moment, before asking with a subtle smile, his tone playful, "Would you want to join me?"

----------

It appears Shura has once more grown comfortable enough to joke, to tease, previous awkwardness forgotten. Do you--

> Play along! But keep it all light hearted and friendly.
> Flirt! Really, how can you pass up a chance like this?
> Tease! Perhaps you liked seeing Shura flustered?
> Stonewall! Neither do the playful tones nor the implications do anything to you, simply answer the questions.
> Act awkward! Uh oh, what do now?

> Play along! But keep it all light hearted and friendly.

El Cid does not like toeing his boundaries when it comes to personal relationships. Flirting is not his type of approach; and teasing, while... encouraged by a certain colleague is not his not his strongest trait. He also likes Shura enough than to just give him a stone-faced reply.

After giving the waiter a polite nod and a word of thanks, he returns Shura's smile easily. "Of course, I would like that. I haven't been around the other clubs since I settled on one. When do you plan on going?"

----------

Looks like El Cid's company is in the bag! Nothing could go possibly wrong from now on, but that would perhaps depend on how you show enthusiasm~

> You're on fire! "Let's go tomorrow after work?"
> Be ~reasonable~ "How about this weekend?"
> Neither here nor there~ "Let's schedule something next week?"
> Meh. "I'll poke at my schedule and let you know."
thefinestknight: (smirky smirk)

VERY SIMPLE CHOICE THIS TIME

[personal profile] thefinestknight 2012-09-02 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
> Be ~reasonable~ "How about this weekend?"

He might have suggested that in teasing, but that doesn't mean he isn't interested in the company. But at the same time he knows well enough not to appear too overeager. "This weekend? I still need to finish settling down at my new place," which is true enough. He still has some unpacking to do and a couple pieces of furniture to put together and move around.

Though there is one thing he wants to ask too, given El Cid's response to him. He asks with one hint of teasing, one hint of a smirk, "I take it your club doesn't offer fencing?"

----------

So it seems like Shura still needs to settle down at his new apartment. It's an opening for you! Do you want to include an offer to help him with that along with the rest of your reply?

> Yes. Offer to help.
> No. Don't offer to help.
thefinestblade: (♑ conversational)

that works~ /o/

[personal profile] thefinestblade 2012-09-02 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
> Yes. Offer to help.

Not offering is preposterous. In fact, why hasn't El Cid offered earlier?? Might be because they were busy with work -- which is very valid reason! The two take pride in what they do and work is work, while other things stay out as they work. The weekend proposal works in El Cid's favor as well as he foresees some overtime for the next day, if not for the rest of the week.

"This weekend works well." At the first question, El Cid shakes his head. "It doesn't. Though it does boast of facilities for Kendo and Kyuudo."

Despite the work forecast, El Cid still finds it at least correct to offer; and time can definitely be made should Shura accept, and he won't take it against the other man should he refuse. "Do you need any help in settling in, by the way?"

----------

How nice of your new colleague!

> Um... no?? Refuse because who does El Cid think he is, your boyfriend?! -- you'll be fine~
> Sure why not? It only means getting things done faster, then more time to do what ever else you want! /o/

> Sure why not? It only means getting things done faster, then more time to do what ever else you want! /o/

"The work never stops with fencing," he comments idly, not at all surprised to hear that answer. The Japanese sports did tend to be more popular than fencing. "You always need to hunt down everything that has to do with it."

The offer to help surprises Shura slightly, but it would be a lie to say he isn't grateful for it. It should mean less sleepless nights during the work week and finishing faster. The prospect of not having to live on boxes for the next few months is a good one.

"That would be great, actually," and he immediately adds, "If you'd have time for it. This week is looking to be rather busy, as far as I could tell today," on his first day, yes, but he knows how to listen carefully and he pays attention to almost everything.
thefinestblade: (♑ companion)

[personal profile] thefinestblade 2012-09-03 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Time will be made. There is much to be done, but as long as the proper procedures are followed, there will be little chance for delays." El Cid is actually glad to have additional hands on-board. It had not been obvious in the beginning, but gradually, it was found that delays weren't caused by idle hands, but was caused by a simple case of too much to do, and too little hands to do them.

"I hope we'll be able to find a club you'll like."

As they speak, the rest of their meal arrives, along with the cava, which the waiter took the liberty of pouring the first servings into their glass. With a nod of thanks, El Cid picks up his glass and holds it out to his new work partner --

"Welcome aboard, Shura. To your health."
thefinestknight: (blushing determination)

[personal profile] thefinestknight 2012-09-03 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever Shura has to say, for that very moment, remains unsaid. A justified pause in the conversation. He smiles slightly, genuinely both pleased by the sentiment and amused by the gesture, and picks up his own glass to knock it lightly against El Cid's.

"Thank you," there's a brief pause here, the corner of his lips curling further into a subtle smirk, still friendly, just further amused, and he adds, "And to good partnership." As far as he's concerned? Said good partnership already started.

Only then does he take a good sip of the cava, and only with that done the conversation can continue as they eat.
